Wood Anemone

Common name: Wood Anemone

Scientific name: Anemone quinquefolia

Dimensions:
  Flower: About 1" (2.5 cm) wide
  Plant height: 4-8" (10-20 cm)

Blooming period: April - June

Habitat: Open woods, thickets, clearings, moist areas

Description: This low, delicate woodland plant usually has five white (rarely pink), petal-like sepals, but could have as few as 4 and as many as 9; actual petals are absent. The flowers are solitary on a stalk above a whorl of 3 stalked, deeply cut stem leaves appearing to be divided into 3-5toothed leaflets each 1 1/4" (3.5 cm) long. Single basal leaf is long-stalked, trifoliate. Buttercup family. (May 1)
