Awl Aster

Common name: Awl Aster

Scientific name: Aster pilosus

Dimensions:
  Flower: 3/8-3/4" (9-18 mm) wide
  Plant height: 1/2-5' (15-150 cm)

Blooming period: July-September

Habitat: Open dry, often sandy, places

Description: White flowers with yellow or pinkish disk, sometimes on one-sided branches, often in widespread clusters, 40-100 flowers per cluster; flower base broadly urn-shaped, constricted above the middle, then flares out; awl-shaped bracts. Leaves seldom longer than 4" (10 cm); upper leaves stalkless or nearly stalkless, toothless (entire) or slightly toothed, linear to elliptic; basal and lower stem leaves with stalks. Aster family.
