Common name: Big-leaved Aster

Scientific name: Aster macrophyllus

Dimensions:
    Flower: 3/4-1" (2-2.5 cm) wide
    Plant height: 1-5' (30-150 cm)

Blooming period: August-September

Habitat: Dry woods, clearings

Description: Light violet or lavender flowers (occasionally white) on rough, sticky glandular branches; 9-20 rays; disk becomes reddish- brownish; bracts downy with broad tips. Basal leaves very large 4-8" (10-20 cm) wide, heart-shaped, rough, thick, toothed, often with broad basal notch. Upper leaves small, ovate, sessile. Stems purplish. Aster family. (August 17)
