Dimensions:
  Flower: ¼-?" (6-8 mm) long

Blooming period: July-August

Habitat: Swamps, pond-sides and along streams

Description: Numerous small, white tubular flowers in ball-like clusters 1-1½" (2.5-4 cm) wide. The flowers of this wetland or aquatic shrub have 4 pointed or spreading lobes, 4 stamens, and a long, protruding style that gives the cluster an appearance reminiscent of a pin- cushion. The leaves are 3-6" (7.5-15 cm) long, opposite or whorled, oblong, un-toothed and pointed. Madder family. (July 11)
