Scientific name: Cichorium intybus

Dimensions:
    Flower: 1-1½" (2.5-4 cm) wide
    Plant height: 1-4' (30-120 cm)

Blooming period: June-October

Habitat: Dry fields, roadsides, weedy places

Description: Stalk-less flowers with clear blue (sometimes white, rarely pink) rays square-tipped and fringed, numerous on a stiff, nearly leafless, stem; 2-parted style is surrounded by dark blue fused anthers. Leaves partly clasping, 3-6" (7.5-15 cm) long at the base, dandelion-like; leaves on stem much smaller, oblong to lanceolate. Flowers usually closed by noon. Aster family. (August 4)
