Scientific name: Prunus virginiana

Dimensions:
  Flower: ½" (1.5 cm) wide
  Plant height: 2-20' (.5-6 m)

Blooming period: May-June

Habitat: Thickets and woodland borders

Description: Numerous white flowers with five rounded petals in dense, cylindrical terminal clusters (racemes) 1½-4" (4-10 cm) long. This tall shrub/small tree has thin, oblong to oval alternate leaves with 8-11 pairs of fairly conspicuous veins and sharply, finely toothed, margins 1½-4" (4-10 cm) long. The flowers resemble those of the Black Cherry (P. serotina), a tree with blunt-toothed leaves. Rose Family. (May 15)
