Scientific name: Tussilago farfara

Dimensions:
  Flower: 1" (2.5 cm) wide
  Plant height: 6-18" (15-45 cm)

Blooming period: April-May

Habitat: Disturbed and weedy places

Description: Dandelion-like yellow flower heads solitary on stalks with reddish scales rising from creeping underground stems (rhizomes). Flowers have numerous thin rays in layers surrounding the center disk flowers. The basal leaves are 2-7" (5-17.5 cm) long, broad, heart-shaped, slightly toothed and whitish beneath. The leaves have the appearance of a "colt's foot" imprint and appear when flowering has past. Aster family. (May 2)
