Common name: Common Sow Thistle

Scientific name: Sonchus oleraceus

Dimensions:
    Flower: 3/4-1½" (2-4 cm) wide
    Plant height: 1-8' (30-240 cm)

Blooming period: June-September

Habitat: Weedy places, cultivated fields roadsides

Description: Several yellow dandelion-like flower heads in flat-topped panicles on top of smooth stems; 80-250 flowers per head. Leaves 2½-12" (6.5-30 cm) long, narrowly oval; lower leaves deeply lobed, usually with a large, triangular, terminal lobe; upper leaves smaller. Composite family. (August 10)
