Common name: Downy Yellow Violet

Scientific name: Viola pubescens

Dimensions:
    Flower: 1/2-3/4" (1.5-2 cm) wide
    Plant height: 6-16" (15-40 cm)

Blooming period: April-May

Habitat: Rich and dry woods

Description: A softly hairy plant with leaves and flowers on the same stalk ("stemmed"). Yellow flowers have 5 petals, lower petals with brownish-purple veins; lateral petals bearded. Heart-shaped leaves 2-5" (5-12.5 cm) wide, prominently veined, hairy beneath. Violet family. (May 18)
