Common name: Common Elder (Elderberry)

Scientific name: Sambucus canadensis

Dimensions:
  Flower: About 1/8" (4 mm) wide
  Plant height: 3-12' (90-360 cm)

Blooming period: June-July

Habitat: Moist places, field edges and thickets

Description: Tiny white, fragrant flowers in a flat-topped cluster 2-10" (5-25 cm) wide, wider than long; individual flowers are 5-lobed. Leaves are opposite, pinnately compound, with 5-11, usually 7, egg-shaped, sharply-toothed leaflets, each 2-6" (5-15 cm) long. Fruit is purple-black, edible, can be made into tasty jelly and wine. Honeysuckle family. (June 27)
