Common name: Foam-flower (False Mitterwort)

Scientific name: Tiarella cordifolia

Dimensions:
   Flower: ¼" (6 mm) wide
   Plant height: 6-12" (15-30 cm)

Blooming period: April-June

Habitat: Rich woods

Description: Small white flowers on crowded terminal clusters that are up to 4" (10 cm) long atop a leafless stalk; each flower with 5 sepals, 5 petals, 10 protruding stamens with reddish or yellow anthers, and 2 pistils. From a distance the clusters appear as foam, giving this flower its name. The basal-only leaves are 2-4" (5-10 cm) long, usually hairy, round to heart-shaped with 3-5 lobes and sharply toothed, resembling a maple leaf. Saxifrage family. (May 5)
