Giant Sunflower

Common name: Giant Sunflower

Scientific name: Helianthus giganteus

Dimensions:
    Flower: 1½-3" (3-7.5 cm) wide
    Plant height: 3-10' (90-360 cm)

Blooming period: July-October

Habitat: Swamps, wet thickets, meadows

Description: Several light yellow flower heads on a tall, rough, reddish or purplish stem. Flower rays 10-20; disk flowers numerous; bracts long- pointed and green. Leaves 3-7" (7.5-17.5 cm) long, lanceolate, shallowly toothed, rough, mostly alternate. Aster family. (September 25)
