Globe Thistle

Common name: Globe Thistle

Scientific name: Echinops sphaerocephalus

Dimensions:
  Flower: 3/8-1/2" (1-1.5 cm) wide
  Plant height: Up to 8' (2.5 m)

Blooming period: July-September

Habitat: weedy places

Description: Blue to purple or white tubular flowers in spherical heads 1½-2½" (3.5-6 cm) wide; tube slender; flower lobes long and narrow. Leaves pinnately lobed, clasping, up to 8" (20 cm) long, white woolly-hairy under, rough or coarse on top. Aster family. (August 2)
