Scientific name: Zizia aurea

Dimensions:
  Flower: 1/8" (3 mm) wide in compound umbel 1-2" (2.5-5 cm) wide
  Plant height: 1-3' (30-90 cm)

Blooming period: April-June

Habitat: Meadows, fields, woodlands, fresh-water shores

Description: Small yellow flowers in flat-topped compound umbels; each umbel has 6-20 spokes with one stalkless flower at the center on the individual stem. Stem often red-tinged. Leaves are doubly compound, 3 divisions divided again into 3 to 7 narrow (lance-shaped to oval) toothed leaflets, each 1-2" (2.5-5 cm) long. Dogbane family. (May 7) vated in eastern gardens. Phlox family. (May 6)
