Blue-stemmed Goldenrod

Common name: Blue-stemmed Goldenrod (Axillary Goldenrod)

Scientific name: Solidago caesia

Dimensions:
  Flower: Heads about ¼" (6 mm) long
  Plant height: 1-3' (30-90 cm)

Blooming period: August-October

Habitat: Woodlands, thickets, clearings

Description: Clusters of yellow flower heads in leaf axils with terminal cluster the largest. Flowers have 3-5 petal-like rays, 5-8 disk flowers. Leaves 2-5" (5-12.5 cm) long, lance shaped, stalkless, toothed, sharply pointed. Stems frequently tinged blue or purple. One of the wand-like goldenrod species, it is also one of the few goldenrods found growing in shaded places. Aster family. (September 3)
