Early Goldenrod

Common name: Early Goldenrod

Scientific name: Solidago juncea

Dimensions:
  Flower: Heads 1/8-1/4" (4-6 mm) long
  Plant height: 1½-4' (45-120 cm)

Blooming period: July-September

Habitat: Dry soil, roadsides, fields, borders, open woods

Description: Yellow flower heads mostly on upper side of arching plumes. Flowers have 7-12 petal-like rays, 9-14 disk flowers. Leaves 6-16" (15-40 cm) long, narrowly elliptic or narrowly oval; lower leaves large, toothed and tapering into a long, margined stalk; upper leaves nearly toothless (entire); feather-veined. Tiny wing-like leaflets in axils of upper leaves. Stem and leaves smooth. This plant may also take an elm-like shape. Aster family. (August 24)
