Gray Goldenrod

Common name: Gray Goldenrod

Scientific name: Solidago nemoralis

Dimensions:
  Flower: About ¼" (6 mm) long
  Plant height: ½-3' (15-90 cm)

Blooming period: July-October

Habitat: Dry or sandy soil, open woods

Description: Yellow flower heads in narrow to broad panicle-like one-sided plumes, nodding at the tip; each flower head with 5-9 petal-like rays, 3-6 disk flowers. The leaves of this small species, 2-10" (5-25 cm) long, are larger and more prevalent at the base; basal leaves bluntly or obscurely toothed; tiny leaflets appear in the axils of leaves where they join the base; leaves feather-veined and rough, covered by dense, fine hairs as is the grayish stem. Aster family. (August 19)
