Zig-zag Goldenrod

Common name: Zig-zag Goldenrod (Broad-leaved Goldenrod)

Scientific name: Solidago flexicaulis

Dimensions:
  Flower: Heads about ¼" (6 mm) long
  Plant height: 1-3' (30-90 cm)

Blooming period: August-October

Habitat: Woodlands, rich thickets, cool slopes

Description: Yellow flower heads in short clusters in leaf axils or in a terminal cluster. Flowers have 3-4 petal-like rays, 5-9 disk flowers. Leaves 2-6" (5-15 cm) long, very broadly oval to elliptic, coarsely and sharply toothed, pointed, hairy beneath and usually short-stalked; feather-veined. Stems tend to be somewhat zig-zag, hairless below the clusters and grooved. Aster family. (September 13)
