Common name: Indian Tobacco

Scientific name: Lobelia inflata

Dimensions:
    Flower: Corolla 1/4" (6 mm) long
    Plant height: 6"-36" (15-90 cm)

Blooming period: June-September

Habitat: Open woods, fields, meadows, roadsides

Description: Small lavender or blue-violet, two-lipped flowers grow singly from leaf axils or at the top of plant stems; upper corolla lip is 2-lobed with split between the lobes; lower corolla lip 3-lobed and bearded; after flowering the calyx becomes inflated with seeds; sepals are long and reflexed. Leaves 1-2½" (2.5-6.5 cm) long, thin, light green, ovate and toothed, alternating on hairy stems. Bellflower family. (August 8)
