Yellow Iris

Common name: Yellow Iris (Yellow Flag Iris)

Scientific name: Iris pseudacorus

Dimensions:
  Flower: 3-4" (7.5-10 cm) wide   Plant height: 2-3' (60-90 cm)

Blooming period: May-August

Habitat: Marshes and stream-sides

Description: One to several showy yellow or cream colored flowers on strong, erect stalks; 3 backward-curving sepals; 3 upright petals smaller than sepals; 3 styles arching over the sepals with 3 stamens under. Lance-shaped leaves stiff and erect, clustered at base and often rise taller than flower stalk. Escaped from cultivation after introduced from Europe. Iris family. (May 28)
