Scientific name: Cypripedium pubescens

Dimensions:
  Flower: Lip petal 1-2" (2.5-5 cm) long
  Plant height: 12-24" (30-60 cm)

Blooming period: May-July

Habitat: Bogs, swamps, moist rich woods

Description: A fragrant yellow flower with a pouch-shaped lip petal ("slipper") and 2 greenish-yellow to brownish, twisted, pointed lateral petals; 2 sepals, one above lip petal and one below, oval or narrowly oval in shape, are greenish-yellow to brownish, and are actually united. Usually 3-5 leaves, up to 8" (20 cm) long, deeply parallel-veined, oval to elliptical, alternating on the stalk. Rare and considered threatened in New Hampshire. Orchid family. (May 31)
