Canada Lily

Common name: Canada Lily (Wild Yellow Lily)

Scientific name: Lilium canadense

Dimensions:
  Flower: 2-3" (5-7.5 cm) wide
  Plant height: 2-5' (60 -150 cm)

Blooming period: June-August

Habitat: Moist or wet meadows, bogs, openings

Description: 1-5, occasionally more, nodding yellow to orange-red bell-shaped flowers with dark purple spots inside, each flower on long stalk (pedicel); 3 petals and 3 petal-like sepals arching outward; 6 stamens with brown anthers. Leaves 3-6" (7.5-15 cm) long in 6-11 whorls of 4-12; leaf blades lance-shaped (lanceolate) to linear-elliptic, often with minute stiff hairs on underside veins. The flower buds and plant roots edible, once eaten by Native Americans. Lily family. (July 7)
