Trout Lily

Common name: Trout Lily (Adder's Tongue, Dogtooth Violet, Fawn Lily, Yellow Trout Lily)

Scientific name: Erythronium americanum

Dimensions:
  Flower: 1-2" (2.5-5 cm) wide   Plant height: 4-10" (10-25 cm)

Blooming period: April - May

Habitat: Rich woods

Description: Solitary yellow flowers with petals recurved, often brown-purple underneath and spotted within; 3 petals and 3 petal-like sepals; 6 stamens with brownish or yellow anthers. Leaves basal, 2-8" (5-20 cm) long, elliptical, mottled resembling the speckling on a trout. Lily family. (May 1)
