Swamp Milkweed

Common name: Swamp Milkweed

Scientific name: Asclepias incarnata

Dimensions:
  Flower: ¼" (6 mm) wide
  Plant height: 1-5' (30-150 cm)

Blooming period: June-August

Habitat: Swamps, shorelines, thickets, wet ground

Description: Pink to red or white flowers in relatively small, several-to-many flat clusters on tall, branching stems; clusters 1-2" (2.5-5 cm) wide; flowers with 5 recurved petals and 5 central "hoods". Leaves 2½-6" (6.5-15 cm) long, lance shaped to oblong or linear-oblong, un-toothed (entire), opposite, with lateral veins at an acute angle. The sap of this milkweed species is less "milky" than other family members. Milkweed family. (July 1)
