Scientific name: Verbascum blattaria

Dimensions:
  Flower: About 1" (2.5 cm) wide
  Plant height: 1-4½' (30-150 cm)

Blooming period: June-September

Habitat: Old fields, roadsides, weedy places

Description: Yellow, often white, flowers in long, slender, open, simple or branched spike-like clusters (racemes) on erect stems. Flowers tinged with purple on the back; 5 united petals; 5 stamens with orange anthers and purplish "beards" on the stamens; button- like buds. Leaves 1-5" (2.5-12.5 cm) long, variable, triangular to oblong or narrowly oval, coarsely toothed or toothless, stalkless (sessile). Naturalized from Europe, the flower's hairy filaments are likened to moth antennae, hence the plant's name. Figwort family. (August 20)
