Common name: Pickerel weed

Scientific name: Pontederia cordata

Dimensions:
    Flower: 1/4-3/8" (6-8mm) long
    Plant height: Aquatic- flower stalks 1-2'
    (30-60 cm) above water

Blooming period: June-October

Habitat: Freshwater marshes, pond edges, lkaes and streams

Description: Violet-blue flowers in spikes 3-4" (7.5-10 cm) long. Individual flowers are funnel- shaped, 2-lipped, each lip having 3 lobes. Middle lobe has 2 yellow spots. Three lower flower parts are separate. Basal and lower stem leaves heart- shaped or narrowly oval. Pickerelweed family. (August 2)
