Common name: Maiden Pink

Scientific name: Dianthus deltoides

Dimensions:
    Flower: 1/2-3/4" (1.5-2 cm) wide
    Plant height: 4-16" (10-40 cm)

Blooming period: June-September

Habitat: Fields, meadows and roadsides

Description: Deep pink solitary flowers on hairless or nearly so stems. Five petals toothed at the tip; dark ring and white dots at each flower's center. Basal leaves oval, broader toward tip, 1/2-1¼" (1.5-3 cm) long; stem leaves linear, 3/4-1½" (2-4 cm) long. A garden escape. Pink family. (June 21)
