Common Pipewort

Common name: Common Pipewort

Scientific name: Eriocaulon aquaticum

Dimensions:
  Flower: About 1/16" (2 mm) long
  Plant height: Aquatic, flower heads up to 6" above water

Blooming period: July-September

Habitat: Shallow, still waters of ponds and lakes, bogs.

Description: Round, button-like heads of whitish flowers solitary on a 7-sided ribbed, leafless stalk; 2 petals; flower heads up to 1/2" (1.5 cm) wide. Leaves are basal, submerged, grass-like, 1-4" (2.5-10 cm) long, sharply pointed. Pipewort family. (July 24)
