Common name: Purple Coneflower

Scientific name: Echinacea purpurea

Dimensions:
    Flower: 2½-4" (6.5-10 cm) wide
    Plant height: 1-5' (30-150 cm)

Blooming period: June-September

Habitat: Fields, meadows, open woods

Description: Large daisy-like flower with purple drooping rays surrounding a bristly, brownish-orange central disk. Flower heads solitary at end of stem. Leaves up to 6" (15 cm) long, rough, long-stalked, ovate, with rough teeth. Easily grown, it is a popular flower for home gardens. Aster family. (August 19)
