Purple Loosestrife

Common name: Purple Loosestrife

Scientific name: Lythrum salicaria

Dimensions:
    Flower: 1/2-3/4" (1½-2 cm) wide
    Plant height: 2-6' (60-180 cm)

Blooming period: June-September

Habitat: Wet meadows, marshes, wet low areas

Description: Slender spikes of purple-pink
flowers with 4-6 wrinkled petals. Spikes 4-16"
(10-40 cm) tall; equal or greater number of stamens. Lanceolate leaves 1½-4" (4-10 cm) long, rounded to heart-shaped at base, talkless, opposite or in threes. Loosestrife family. (August 17)
