Purple-stemmed Aster

Common name: Purple-stemmed Aster
(Bristly Aster)

Scientific name: Aster puniceus (Symphyotrichum puniceum)

Dimensions:
    Flower: 1-1½" (2.5-4 cm) wide
    Plant height: 2-6' (60-180 cm)

Blooming period: August-October

Habitat: Wet woodlands and meadows, swamps, moist places

Description: Light violet or violet-blue rays around a central disk of tiny yellow flowers. Flower heads each on own stalk, clustered above stout, reddish, hairy stem. Leaves 2½-6" (6.5-15 cm) long, narrowly oval to lanceolate, gradually tapering to the clasping base; toothed or toothless. Aster family. (August 3)
