Purple Trillium

Common name: Purple Trillium
(Wake Robin, Stinking Benjamin)

Scientific name: Trillium erectum

Dimensions:
    Flower: 1-3" (2.5-7.5 cm) wide
    Plant height: 7-16" (17-40 cm)

Blooming period: April-June

Habitat: Moist woods and shaded areas

Description: Single nodding flower with unpleasant odor, on short stalk above whorl of three diamond-shaped leaves. Three petals maroon or reddish-brown. Three green sepals. Leaves up to 7" (17.5 cm) long, dark green, sessile or nearly sessile.
