Sea Lavender

Common name: Sea Lavender

Scientific name: Limonium carolinianum

Dimensions:
  Flower: About 1/8" (3 mm) wide
  Plant height: 1-2' (30-60 cm)

Blooming period: July-October

Habitat: Salt marshes

Description: Tiny pale purple flowers on widely branching sprays of this smooth, saltmarsh plant. The sprays are often flat- topped and the flowers line one side of the stem. The leaves are basal, 2-10" (5-25 cm) long, broadly lance-shaped, tapering toward the base with smooth or slightly wavy edges; prominent midrib. Very showy in late summer, one source describes the plants when massed as resembling sea mist. Leadwort family. (July 31)
