Common name: Canada St. Johns-wort

Scientific name: Hypericum canadense

Dimensions:
  Flower: 1/4" (6 mm) wide
  Plant height: 4-24" (10-60 cm)

Blooming period: July-September

Habitat: Sandy or muddy shores, wet meadows

Description: Small yellow flowers in some- times compact but more often loose, much- branched terminal clusters; bracts very narrowly oval; sepals lance-shaped (lanceolate); 12-22 stamens; 3, sometimes 4, styles. Leaves 1/2- 1 1/2" (1.5-4 cm) long, linear or narrowly oval, tapering to base, entire, stalkless; 1-nerved or weakly 3-nerved. Fruit pod deep red or purple, conically shaped. Plant pictured about 8" (20 cm) tall. St. Johns-wort family. (August 13)
