American Dog Violet

Common name: American Dog Violet

Scientific name: Viola conspera

Dimensions:
  Flower: About ¾" (2 cm) wide
  Plant height: 2-6" (5 - 15 cm)

Blooming period: April-June

Habitat: Meadows, damp woods, stream banks

Description: Light blue-violet flowers on same stalk as and above the leaves; 5 petals; dark veins prominent on lower petal; side petals slightly bearded; spur 1/8-1/4" (4-5mm) long. Leaves 1 ¾" (4.5 cm) long, round, heart-shaped, slightly scalloped, base notched; finely-toothed, leaf-like stipules at base of plant. Violet family. (May 24)
