Common Blue Violet

Common name: Common Blue Violet

Scientific name: Viola sororia

Dimensions:
  Flower: ½"-¾" (1.5-2 cm) wide
  Plant height: 3-8" (7.5-20 cm)

Blooming period: April-June

Habitat: Damp woods, meadows, roadsides, lawns

Description: Blue or purple to white flowers with strongly veined lower petals. Lateral petals are hairy (bearded) at the base (hairs are straight, long and slender). Flowers and leaves grow on separate stalks. Leafstalks are often longer than the flower stalks. Leaves are 2-5" (5-12.5 cm) wide, heart-shaped with scalloped edges. Violet family. (May 5)
