Wild Geranium

Common name: Wild Geranium (Cranesbill)

Scientific name: Geranium maculatum

Dimensions:
  Flower: 1-1½" (2.5-4 cm) wide
  Plant height: 1-2' (30-60 cm)

Blooming period: April-June

Habitat: Woods, thickets, shady areas

Description: Clusters of 2-5 pink or white flowers; petals not notched; 5 pointed sepals much shorter that the petals; 5 petals; 10 stamens; 1 pistil. Flower branches bear a pair of deeply-lobed leaves 4-5" (10-12.5 cm) wide, gray-green, hairy, stalked, palmately divided into deeply-toothed lobes; basal leaves long-stalked. Note the long beak or "cranesbill" at the center of the flower. Geranium family. (May 20)
